Cuando queremos establecer un orden debemos usar los números ordinales:

Primero / First

Segundo / Second

Tercero / Third

 

 

Los restantes números ordinales se forman agregando «th»  al final del número cardinal.

 

Cuarto / Fourth                                Undécimo / Eleventh   

Quinto / Fifth                                   Duodécimo / Twelfth

Sexto / Sixth                                    Decimotercero / Thirteenth

Séptimo / Seventh                           Decimocuarto / Fourteenth

Octavo / Eighth                               Decimoquinto / Fifteenth

Noveno / Ninth                                Decimosexto / Sixteenth

Décimo / Tenth                                Decimoséptimo / Seventeenth

                                                      Decimoctavo / Eighteenth

                                                      Decimonoveno / Nineteenth

                                                       Vigésimo / Twentieth

Cuando el número es compuesto, el ordinal se dice al final:

Vigésimo primero / Twenty-first

Trigésimo cuarto / Thirty-fourth

 

Los números ordinales se usan:

 

Para indicar el orden en que sucede o está ubicado algo o alguien:

Esta es mi primera clase / This is my first class

Mi hermano es el segundo a la derecha / My brother is the second on the right

 

Para decir las fechas:

Ella nació el primero de julio / She was born on July first

 

Para decir el piso en el que alguien vive:

Ellos viven en el quinto piso / They live on the fifth floor
